Things have been heating up in both a literal and figurative sense this month at the ÉCU office. Submissions for the 10th edition of ÉCU – The European Independent Film Festival are starting to roll in, and we have been thoroughly enjoying going through them while we continue to promote the fantastic films from the past edition. The next ÉCU—The European Independent Film Festival takes place April 10th-12th, 2015 in Paris, France. Attention all indie filmmakers! Submit early for the opportunity to have your work showcased before a global audience at one of Europe’s premier cultural cinematic events.

Because ÉCU is a 12-month event, the fun doesn’t stop when the festival does. The ÉCU-on-the-Road tour kick started the month with a visit to Rome, Italy for the Mashrome Film Festival. Featuring mash up, remix, and experimental cinema, Mashrome presented 4 films that were part of ÉCU 2014 Official Selection: BYE-BYE STARR-FIZZ, experimental film by Charline Branger; NOT ANYMORE : A STORY OF REVOLUTION by Matthew VanDyke and winner of Best Non-European Independent Documentary at ÉCU 2014; POST SCRIPTUM by Spanish filmmaker Santiago Parres; and BABYLON, music video by Felix van Cleeff.

ecu 2015Dedicated to associating with festivals that highlight the most cutting-edge films worldwide, ÉCU was delighted to partner with the Festival of New Cinema, International Festival of Digital Cinema. The 10th edition of this 10-day event featured diverse, daring, and imaginative digital short films free of charge for a multicultural audience.

We ended the month with ÉCU-on-the-Road tour’s stop at the Victoria Film Festival at the foot of the Fagaras Mountains in Romania. Four films from ÉCU 2014 Official Selection were presented: 216 MONTHS by Valentin Potier and Frédéric Potier ; DAMN GIRL by Kira Richards Hansen; SWEET RABBIT by Camiel Schouwenaar; and CRUISE PATROL, animated film by Bobby de Groot and Arjan van Meerten. This special festival aims to preserve culture in a post-industrial society. We couldn’t support the cause more!

As June comes to a close and July appears closer and closer around the corner, the ÉCU team may have beach destinations on our minds…but indie film doesn’t take a vacation! We continue to promote this year’s submissions, organize ÉCU 2015, and work to bring you the best independent films from around the world. Stay posted to find out more!
