Hot and sunny summer days are here and most probably you will try to stay indoors as little as possible, right? But don’t let the lovely summer weather and long days stop you from watching films! With a number of parks and open spaces across the world now offering special outdoor movie screenings, you no longer have to watch films inside grim multiplexes in the dark. Take a look at some of the best outdoor screenings and open-air film events in Europe that will take place over this summer!

Lets start in our home city, Paris, with the Cinéma en Plein Air. This great event will take place at Parc de la Villette, from the 24th July till the 28th August. It will be an occasion to get to know some original indie movies as well as some classics. The opening night film was “Polisse”, directed by Maïwenn Le Besco, a French independent filmmaker, a tough and intense film that won the price of Jury at Cannes Film Festival in 2011. So if you are in Paris, do not miss these screening and who knows, you might event run into some of us from the ÉCU team!

cinemaenpleinair2Furthermore London is another fantastic location to keep in mind, with possibly the most famous of all open air film events Film4 Summer Screen. From the August 8th to the 21st, everyone is invited to the Somerset house, which will bring cinema lovers a truly eclectic mix of movies shown in one of the major arts and cultural centre in the heart of London.

Long time ago, even before the establishment of the Cannes Film Festival, a well-visited Film Festival took place in the Pula Arena, Croatia and since 1953, Pula has established itself as a place where you can enjoy the film under the starry sky. In 2005, the London newspaper The Guardian wrote that Pula is “one of the three most spectacular open-air festivals in Europe”. Its National and European program includes also indie films and it is traditionally held in the ancient Vespasian’s Amphitheatre (constructed in the mid-1st century B.C), popularly called Arena. The 2013 edition will take place from July 13th to the 27th, so you better hurry up, you do not want to miss this unique event!

cinemaenpleinair4Another great out-door film screening in taking place in Locarno, Switzerland. The Locarno International Film Festival is one of the eight “Top Events of Switzerland” and it is also one of the main cinematographic exhibitions. In particular, the most popular and interesting part is the screenings in the “Piazza Grande”, at the main square of Locarno, where the magic and enchanting atmosphere of the place will make the audience live an unforgettable and engaging experience.

These are only few examples of all the amazing outdoor movie screenings that will take place around Europe this summer. So, now we have only one last suggestion to give to all movie-lovers: grab your blankets, fill up your picnic baskets and go out to see some great films in some of the coolest locations. What are you waiting for?!
