Tuesday, the 23rd of February at 8pm, Le Grand Action will be holding its monthly débat animé, this month lead by Franck Kausch from Club Positif. Each month Club Positif shows a selected film and holds a discussion after the screening. The film of choice for this month is The New World, written and directed by Academy Award nominee Terrence Malick and starring Colin Farrell, Christian Bale and Christopher Plummer. Set in the year 1607, the film is an historical adventure charting the foundation of Jamestown, Virginia. After placing themselves in the middle of a sophisticated Native American empire, the English choose to fight rather than adapt. Yet it is by seeking the help of the the enemy that John Smith discovers an attractive young woman named Pocahontas. Very quickly, a bond is created, which is so powerful that it transcends battle and prejudice. A stunning and mature take on the famous tale, which won a nomination for Best Cinematography at the 2005 Academy Awards.
