PAUL ANDERSON is a former BBC correspondent stationed in Russia, Ukraine, Serbia and Pakistan, now running a small video production and journalism company.He specialises in covering news from the European Union and making video news features on climate change and the environment, as well as sponsored documentaries for the international development community around the world.

AntoineVareilleANTOINE VAREILLE is an editor for feature films and television. He has worked as an editor for the films LUCKY LUKE; HITMAN; BRICE DE NICE; FATAL and DISCOUNT as well as for the TV series KABOUL KITCHEN and on the TV series documentary INTIMATE PORTRAIT with Peggy Fleming and Cindy Crawford. Antoine has been a jury member of the festival for the last 6 years.

garethjonesGARETH JONES is UK based executive producer, an industry veteran with 25 years experience in financing, sales, and distribution. A formed CEO of George Harrison’s HandMade Films, Gareth has financed, sold, and distributed over 80 independent films, including MONA LISA; LOCK STOCK AND TWO SMOKING BARRELS; PSYCH 9 and 4321 and others.

BrigitteDrodtloffBRIGITTE DRODTLOFF is a writer, director & producer. By the age of ten, Brigitte was a well-known face in the Romanian media. For seven years, she moderated a German children’s program on Romanian television, eventually graduating from the renowned School for Film, Theater and Television in Bucharest. Since moving to Germany, Drodtloff has successfully worked as an author, director, dramatic advisor, producer and manager of cultural events. The German Film Rating Agency (FBW) deemed Brigitte Drodtloff’s last short subject, “OMUL” (engl. “Human”) “particularly valuable”. An award winner at film festivals, her short film was officially selected by over 41 international festivals around the world, including ÉCU 2015.

ECU Film Festival 2011MARKUS PAJTLER is a film director born in Wesel, Germany. Fascinated by the post-modern movies of the 60′s, 70′s, and 80′s, he began to shoot short movies at an early age. After graduating, he went to Munich, Berlin, and Cologne to work for several TV stations and movie productions as an assistant director. His film A DAMN KILLER (winner of Audience Award at ÉCU 2011), was a great success at various film festivals across Europe and the United States.

Suz IvanSUZ SAINTY is a factual producer and director. She has written, directed and produced broadcast content and undertaken numerous post production assignments. 

In her current PD role with Discovery and previously with National Geographic, she has also reversioned hundreds of hours of programming for the UK and Europe. She has worked across all genres of factual and lifestyle programming, and has specialist expertise in crime programming. Suz has served on the jury of the European Independent Film Festival since 2007, focusing in particular on the documentary and screenwriting categories.

DSC_0072SCOTT HILLIER is an Australian Director / Cinematographer / Screenwriter. Scott studied film at New York University and The London Film and Television school as well as literary non-fiction writing at Columbia University. He has taught a Masters Degree course in Screenwriting as well as journalism at the Centre de Formation des Journaliste (CFJ) in Paris. In addition to serving as President of The European Independent Film Festival he is also Chief Creative Officer for the Zs2 Media Group in Paris.

Guillaume LevilGUILLAUME LEVIL has directed few short and a feature film which have been shown all over France and abroad. Born in Provence, he likes shooting in the south of France to catch the light that inspires him from lands of many tales and legends. As a true lover of Capra’s and Pagnol’s work, he gives away images as story-teller, not to escape reality but to celebrate it differently. Guillaume’s film THE ANKLET won a Best European Dramatic Short award at ÉCU 2015.

LeeWhittakerLEE WHITTAKER has worked extensively on both sides of the lens, all over the world, for over two decades. Starting his career right after high school on the George Lucas Live Show in Tokyo, Japan he strongly reinforced his love for movies and entertainment. Continuing his career he moved to Los Angeles where he worked on some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters. With over 20 years in stunts and a decade’s experience as a Second-Unit Director Whittaker makes his directorial debut with his film CATCHING FIREFLIES that also won the Best Non-European Independent Dramatic Short award at ÉCU 2015.

Alan ArriveeALAN ARRIVÉE is a filmmaker, writer, and artist. He is Assistant Professor of Cinema and Cinema Director at The University of Mississippi. His film SILENT RADIO was awarded Best Non-European Independent Dramatic Short at ÉCU 2007 and his short THE ORIGINAL I.Q. TESTER received the Founder’s Choice Award at the 2015 Queens World Film Festival. His short play THE ORIGINAL I.Q. TESTER was a finalist for the 2007 Heideman Award and was published in The Tusculum Review. His memoir THE APPROPRIATE USE OF HANDS appeared in The Florida Review and was selected as one of the Notable Essays of 2012.

vesna1VESNA DE VINCA is a Serbian television author, journalist, director and producer with 26 years of experience as a journalist. Since 1993, she has been the TV program editor on the documentary program ‘RTS’, the biggest radio and TV network in Serbia. She also runs her own TV production company and has over 50 documentary, exclusive TV portraits to her credit. Vesna has served on the jury of the European Independent Film Festival since 2007.

interviewpicTANNAZ HAZEMI was born in Teheran during a horrendous war and after escaping with her family she grew up as a refugee in Sweden. After leaving Sweden she moved to the US and graduated High School in Chicago. She published a book on music with MTV Italy,  worked as a freelance journalist and later on-camera talent for Tele+ and VH1. She now lives in Brooklyn with her South African girlfriend and two small yappy dogs, where she writes screenplays and directs shorts. Her most recent short BEFORE THE BOMB has won 15 awards, including Best Short Script at ÉCU 2014 and Best Director at ÉCU 2015. Her other hobbies include astrology and undervalued red wines.

Oscar VegaOSCAR VEGA at the age of 32, decided to change his career from information technology by studying film. He has produced several feature length films, shorts, over 200 entertainment programs for television and hundreds of documentaries and a large number of institutional, corporate and publishing productions. He is a member of the Television Academy, has given courses and talks at professional forums and has been on the jury of several film festivals. He is currently curator of an international exhibition on the Ocean subject (www.oceansworldexhibition.com).

Duncan WardDUNCAN WARD was born in Zambia, educated Zimbabwe and University of Cape Town in South Africa and currently lives and works in London. He moved to Europe in the early ’80′s and started out as an assistant photographer, traveling widely throughout Europe and America. Producing portrait documentaries on several artists and directing numerous commercials as well as making several films. He branched out into writing and directing theatre, created the ‘found theatre company’ and produced three works to date. Duncan won Best European Independent Film award at ÉCU 2015 with HERE LIES.

louisa-mayman-200x300LOUISA MAYMAN is a graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University with a First class honors in Interactive Arts. Her first short documentary, THE HIGEST LOW was screened at various film festivals worldwide and won Best Student Film at ÉCU 2010, as well as being selected for the Non-Fiction Archive at the BFI. She was selected to be one of 70 people from around the world to be taught by Werner Herzog as part of the Rogue Film School and was appointed as an ambassador for G-Technology (2012). Louisa has just completed her first fiction short Come Clean and has other projects in development.

Robin Rippmann entoROBIN RIPPMANN is a Swiss writer and director based in London and the winner of ÉCU 2015’s ‘Best European Music Video’ award. He has studied in Germany and the UK and moved to London to pursue a career as a director. He enjoys creating strong visuals that stay on the audience’s mind and working with new technology.
