From one side of the world to the other. Next we will be taking a stop off in Blyth in the Clare Valley in Australia for our partner festival Clare Valley Film Festival from 13th to 15th November. The Clare Valley Film Festival showcases Australian and international independent film, as well as informing and inspiring a new generation of filmmakers, meanwhile raising the profile of this vibrant and diverse area – the Clare Valley. This year, the theme of family, friendship and life as seen through the eyes of the young and the old have played a big influence on many of the films. Several of them explore the relationship between parents and children and another two are specifically about brothers, resulting in two parts to the festival. Part one is called ‘Mothers and Fathers’ and part two is called ‘Sons and Lovers’, although the boundaries are open to interpretation and are not as limiting as they might suggest.
Different to other years, Clare Valley Film Festival has asked the directors of their partner festival to pick the best films from their own events to be shortlisted for the Clare Valley Film Festival.
Three films, including twi award winning films from ÉCU’s 2015 Official selection were selected to be in competition at the festival. THE BIGGER PICTURE from the UK directed by Daisy Jacobs and DE SMET from Belgium directed by Thomas Baerten and Wim Geudens (winner of Best Independent Comedy) will be in the ‘Sons and Lovers’ section and BEFORE THE BOMB from the USA directed by Tannaz Hazemi (winner of Best Director) will be in the ‘Mothers and Fathers’ section. Wishing the best of luck to all the films!
Make sure to pencil in the dates as this looks to be a pretty cool line up of films!
