Here at ÉCU, we pride ourselves on being a truly unique film festival with over 70 partnerships with film-loving institutions and film festivals from all over the world.
From the UK to Hong Kong, from Indonesia to Australia, from United States to Brazil – we showcase ÉCU’s Official Selection as we believe it is important to make sure that filmmaking talents of today are seen by an audience that otherwise might be difficult to reach.
Thanks to the help of our partners – film commissions, film schools and partner festivals, last year ÉCU films were screened in over 10 countries around the world. We believe it can be a truly life changing experience for both, filmmakers and the audience – after all, a good film can really take you to new places.

Super8000 Film Festival (Aarhus, Denmark)
ÉCU is ecstatic to return to Denmark and share some of the World’s best European independent short films at Super8000 Film Festival on October 28rd 2017. Super8000 Film Festival is making its debut the same year that Aarhus has been named the European Capital of Culture, and is a forum for rethinking storytelling for the big screen. ÉCU is delighted to bring some of the most innovative and though-provoking short films of young European talent to Super8000 and celebrate the theme of Aarhus 2017 – Let’s Rethink. Naperville Independent Film Festival (Naperville, Illinois, USA)
September 23rd – 30th, 2017
ÉCU is thrilled to share, once again, some of its best independent films with its partner festival, Naperville Independent Film Festival. The 10th annual edition of NIFF will take place on September 23rd-30th 2017 in Naperville, Illinois, USA.
This year, 15 award winning films from the 12th edition of ÉCU – The European Independent Film Festival, including the Best European Independent Film 2017, CUBS, will be screened in the special programme, Winners of ÉCU. The special screenings of, Winners of ÉCU, will be shown every evening in two different seatings. More information here.

The Smalls Film Festival (London, UK)
September 1st – September 5th, 2017
Founded in 2006 in London, UK, The Smalls Film Festival has been championing independent filmmaking and creative people for over a decade and we are proud to be part of such great event.
From 1st – 5th September, 2017, some of the industry’s most creative minds will take London by storm for a celebration of short film! With screenings, industry sessions, and infamously lively parties, The Smalls 2017 will showcase the vanguard of short film.
We are happy that the films Rabbit Blood by Yagmur Altan (Turkey) and Cubs by Nanna Kristín (Iceland) are part of the official selection. More information here.
August 30th – September 1st, 2017
ÉCU will be screening a selection of some of the best independent films from around the World in Athens, Greece from the 30th August to the 1st September, 2017. The screenings will take place at the XYTHPIO Theatre Art Café in the Gazi area of Athens and will start at 20.45 every night from Wednesday until Friday and will go until almost midnight. Arkadia ShortFest (Baicoi, Romania)

Once again, ÉCU is delighted to share some of its award winning films from 2017 in Romania. Arkadia ShortFest offers 3 days of artistic events, taking place in an authentic space and making easier for Prahova’s surroundings new generation the access to art and culture. More information soon!
Rural Film Festival (El Edén de La Mancha, Spain)
August 1st – 5th, 2017
In the beginning of August and starts our partner film festival, Rural Film Fest in El Edén de La Mancha in Spain! We’re delighted to announce that LE CHAT DORE, the winner of Best European Independent Comedy Film at ÉCU 2017 will also be screened at the fifth edition of the festival RFF. Aeagen Film Festival (Patmos, Greece)
July 25th – 30th, 2017
ÉCU’s partner festival Aegean Film Festival, previously known as International Film Festival Patmos, is back in 2017! Once again, we’re happy and proud to share some films with Aegean Film Festival, that were screened at ÉCU 2017. A LITTLE HELP, directed by Daniel Halsall that opened ÉCU 2017 weekend, will be also be shown to the greek audiences on 25th – 20th July. In addition, a short film BALCONY (dir. Toby Fell-Holden), which travelled around the world and received many awards, including Special Jury Mention at ÉCU 2016, will be screened at Aegean Film Festival this year. Exciting! Craft Film Nights (Barcelona, Spain)

Our partner Craft Film Festival in Barcelona, will screen RAGE, the winner of ‘Best European Dramatic Feature Film’ at ÉCU 2017, during their second ‘Craft Film Nights’ event! You can find the event here and here. See you there!
Cabriolet Film Festival (Beirut, Lebanon)
June 9th -11th , 2017
Launched in 2009 by Laboratoire d’Art, Cabriolet Film Festival (CFF) is the first outdoor film festival of its kind in Lebanon. Since its inception, CFF has become an annual cultural event taking place over the course of three consecutive nights on Saint Nicolas Stairs – Gemmayze, in the heart of Beirut. This year’s theme is Traveler and ÉCU is proud to have a film Last Seen, which was a part of 2017’s Official Selection, screened at Cabriolet Film Festival. More information here.
ÉCU-in-Viseu (Viseu, Portugal)
7th-9th June, 2017
ÉCU never stops and we are always on road to promote our talented filmmakers around the world. ÉCU-in-Viseu will take place in June 7th to 9th 2017. Viseu, located in the Centro Region of Portugal, is considered to be the “center of art” in Portugal. This historical city is well known especially thanks to both its tasty culinary arts and the presence of a lot of famous monuments, museums and parks. It is also celebrated for the organization of many cultural events that let Viseu be one of the most visited cities in Portugal. More information can be found here.
ÉCU-in-Cannes (Cannes, France)
May 21st – 27th, 2017
ÉCU team went to Cannes for its 70th edition in May 2017. We spent a whole week talking to great people and spreading the indie word. Most importantly – ÉCU launched a call for submissions for its 13th edition, that will take place in 4th, 5th, 6th May 2018. Check out ÉCU’s Youtube channel to see what the team has been up to.
