Student Film: (Worldwide submissions accepted) Open to all (European and Non-European) student films. The film can be in any language, but subtitles in either English or French are highly recommended to ensure the best judging. NOTE: Entrants in this category will ONLY be eligible for the Best Student Film Award.
News and Current Affairs Reportage: (Worldwide submissions accepted) Open to all (European and Non-European) News and Current Affairs professionals. This category is designed to show the very best of “Reportage” from around the world. News organizations, reporters, producers, cameramen and editors can submit. NOTE: A rights clearance form MUST be signed by the broadcaster to make the story eligible for festival screening.
Ecology Now!: This is a category that recognizes the importance of ecology in our current era, and encourages an overlap between science and the arts: ecological questions, issues and debates are at the heart of our daily lives (or at least, deserve to be). Films in this category should reflect a commitment to the protection of the natural world, and should aim to offer a fresh, engaging, and thorough portrayal of an ecological issue or issues. Category will be open to both European and Non-European entries; all genres will be accepted.
Made on Mobile Telephones: Technology plays a central part in the world as we know it, and will only become more prominent in coming years; this category offers a means through which filmmakers can explore the growing relationship between cinema and mobile telephone technology, and can develop a fresh take on their filmmaking talent.
Category will be open to both European and Non-European entries; all genres will be accepted.
IMPORTANT: If your film is chosen to be screened at ÉCU we will need the following in order to compile the festival‘s catalogue:
- A short three line synopsis in English and preferably in French
- A screenshot or publicity shot of your film
- The audiences and judges for your films will be very international and to enhance their viewing / judging experiences ALL films that are nominated as part of The Official Selection need to be subtitled.
- If your film is in English, it will need French subtitles.
- If your film is in French, it will need English subtitles.
- If your film is in a language other than English or French, it will need English subtitles.
