For the second year in a row ÉCU has partnered up with the Luxor Egyptian & European Film Festival, which is taking place between 19th and 25th of January 2014 in Luxor, Egypt. The location of Luxor is meaningful as it is a city in the upper Egypt in which cinema has disappeared in these last years.
There will be three awards at the festival: Best Film, Special Jury Award and Best First Film, while the categories will be: Feature Films, Short Films, New German Cinema (tribute to German cinema after the fall of the Berlin Wall) and Egyptian Independent Cinema.
The program of the Luxor Egyptian & European Film Festival is full of showings, conferences and cultural events. ÉCU is proud to be in partnership with the festival, specially as Luxor Egyptian & European Film Festival promotes European independent cinema together with the local filmmakers in Egypt. This year, as a proof of the strengthened relationship between the two festivals, two members of our team will be attending the event. Kadi Lokk, ÉCU’s Festival Manager, will be serving as a jury member while Scott Hillier, ÉCU’s President will be a guest at the festival.
During the festival in Egypt, ÉCU will also showcase three “Official Selection” films from its last edition: “Photoshopping” (Mark Davenport, UK, 2013), “The Baumanns” (Martin Guggisberg, Switzerland, 2013) and “Eight-Minute Deadline” (Petros Papadopoulos and Zina Papadopoulou, Greece, 2013).
As part of ÉCU-on-the-Road tour, we present films from our previous editions at other festivals, at mini screenings and at cultural centers around the world. Our partners and us always support indie films and make sure that they get seen by as many people as possible!
