Out come the thick coats, hats and scarves here in Paris. Winter’s bitter chill has arrived and it looks like it’s here to stay. That hasn’t stopped us from keeping busy. November has been a very exciting month here at ÉCU. We’ve received so many wonderful film and script submissions this month and our Early Bird Deadline is fast approaching, November 23rd 2014.
In addition, our ÉCU-on-the-Road tour continues, screening the winning films from ÉCU 2014 all over the world. This month we travelled to the Aesthetica Short Film Festival that took place in the city of York in the UK. Screenings moved between medieval halls, galleries, museums and cinemas for four very exciting days of film between the 6th and 9th November.
The second stop of the ÉCU-on-the-Road tour took us to Moscow for the VGIK International Student Festival that took place in the cinema hall of one of the oldest film schools in the world. VGIK, that took place the 17th to 23rd November, is in fact one of the oldest student film showcases, having its first edition in 1961. Among all the events, there was a special screening programme of UK short films from the 2014 edition of ÉCU. Sharing and promoting the talent we have seen here at ÉCU is very important to us. We always want to support the talent and give them an ever-increasing international audience.
We are constantly inspired by the films that are submitted to ÉCU, with that in mind we decided it would be a good idea to hear a little more from some of these fantastic filmmakers. This month we interviewed Armen Grigoryan, actor and producer of THE HUNTER, directed by Ara Arush, in the category Non-European Dramatic Short Films at our ÉCU 2014.
Don’t let the cold get you down this winter. There’s a lot to be enjoyed at this time of year: hot chocolate, warm fires and Christmas is only just round the corner! So in the run up to Christmas why not get cosy and check out some films on our web channel, EuroIFC. You can keep up to date with our wintry activities on any of our social media sites. Finally, our regular submission deadline is coming up next month, December 21st 2014, so make sure to send us your films!
