It’s November and it’s time for a new stop of our ÉCU-on-the-Road tour! This time we are going to Moscow, Russia, where the 34° VGIK International Student Festival will be held from the 17th to the 23th in the cinema hall of one of the oldest film school in the world – VGIK. The festival itself is one of the oldest student film showcases: the first edition was held in 1961.
VGIK is not limited to few days in November, but it is an annual event. The main activities of the festival are organized at the VGIK, in Moscow non-commercial cinemas, in four branches of VGIK in Kaliningrad, Irkutsk, Sergiyev Posad and Rostov- na-Donu, and also in other Russian cities and towns. The number of locations is more than 35 and annually growing. The festival consists of three competition programs: the competition of VGIK-students’ films, the International Competition of students’ films and the International Theatre Competition. There are also technical presentations, retrospective screenings, creative meetings, workshops, special screenings of new films and winners of different cinema festivals, exhibitions, press-conferences and round-table discussions.
Among these various events, there will be also a special screening programme of UK short films from the 2014 edition of ÉCU: TWITCHER, by Jane Gull; OTTO FLOSS: FREELANCE WATCHER by Arturo Bandinelli and Gevi Dimitrakopoulou; TRASH by Nicole Albarelli; A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A BATHROOM MIRROR by Phil Hawkins and PARALLEL by Oliver Briginshaw.
This will be an opportunity for our filmmakers to show their talented work to the Russian audience, in a supporting and creative environment that encourages the meeting with professionals and the exchange of experiences and ideas. We are happy that our partner VGIK shares and helps to realize one of the most important missions of festivals: drawing the public attention to the creativity of the young filmmakers.
So if you want to be part of this celebration of youth and cinema, don’t miss this year’s VGIK International Student Festival… We will be there as well!
