Time flew by in February – as the date of ÉCU 2018 (4-6th May, if you don’t know it by heart yet, shame on you!) is approaching, the ÉCU office is just getting busier and busier. If you’ve been dying to know what we’ve been up to, don’t worry, the wait is over – here’s an almost exhaustive list of all the fun stuff the ÉCU 2018 team did in February!
On February 11, submissions for ÉCU 2018 officially closed on all submission platforms. This year again, we have received an incredible amount of wonderful, exciting indie films and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you lovely filmmakers – once again, you didn’t disappoint. ÉCU 2018’s official selection will be announced on the 14th March, and oh well it’s seriously going to be a quite a tough job choosing, thanks to all the stunning films you guys have sent us.
ÉCU has also established a brand new partnership with the Arab Cinema Center, an international promotional platform for Arab cinema since 2015. This wonderful organisation provides the filmmaking industry with a professional window to connect with their counterparts from all over the World through exciting events. From now on, the Ahmed Khedr Award for Excellence in Arab Filmmaking – our very special prize established 5 years ago to promote and support independent filmmaking in this region – will be presented in collaboration with ACC. We are delighted by this cooperation and looking forward to all the brilliant things we can hopefully accomplish together in the future.
Also, we have had the opportunity to welcome plenty of talented and hard-working interns in the ÉCU office, all working hard to make sure that ÉCU 2018 is going to be ah-mazing. So far, the ÉCU 2018 team is made up of an extremely creative bunch, who make every single day in the office fun. The festival wouldn’t exist without their hard work and enthusiasm.
February has been a wonderful month for cinema: we hope you didn’t miss such important releases of the months as Black Panther or Game Night. Also, this the hype this month has been all about Timothée Chalamet, French-American bilingual hottie starring in both Call Me By Your Name AND Ladybird. Even Timothée himself liked our Spotlight on Instagram, so how could you not? Our witty bloggers have also shared their opinion on Phantom Thread, Polisse, The Safdie Brothers, Lady Bird , and on the mindblowing director Ryan Coogler. Make sure to check them out!
A little reminder for all of you cinema lovers, make sure to have a little look at our marvellous Japanese sister, Mt. Fuji-Atami Film Festival. To all filmmakers out there, if you missed ÉCU’s deadline or simply looking for multiple platforms to submit your film to, do not worry! Atami Festival’s extended submissions close on the 10th of May, so make sure you submit your film until then.
I am afraid that is all for now, folks. See you all in March with another monthly update!
In the meantime, if you want to stay up to date of what we crazy kids at ÉCU are up to day-to-day, keep checking our Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, as well as our super indie Pinterest and Tumblr pages.
