” For an instant, I am. The light touches me gently and I live, burst and shine. This constant, irreversible, rhythmic drift from being to not. Only the memories left. Escaping desires. The love. The pain. I only have an instant of life. So please. This film is an ode to the rhythm of being.”

17348967_300x300Year after year, we receive countless films that really leave us speechless. We were lucky enough to catch up with Giada  Ghiringhelli, director of “Rhythm of Being” who took home the award for ‘Best Experimental Film’ at this years festival with her vibrantly avant-garde representation of individual origination and growth.

1/.What camera did you use and what format did you shoot on?
I used a Canon 5D MKII and so the film is shot in digital format.

2/.   What projector did you use?

I used a Optoma GT750 Short Throw DLP HDMI Projector, 3500 ANSI Lumens.

3/.  How big was the set?
I shot the video in my living room, so not very big, there were many limitations.

4/.  Did you use additional lighting?
The only light used was the one coming from the projector.

5/.  What editing software did you use?
I edited in Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve.

6/.  Can you describe any special techniques you used during the editing (masking? Trimming / matting etc?)
I used different techniques to achieve the final result, but in particular I worked a lot frame by frame, with superimposition, keying, masking and the addition of cg particles.

7/.   Can you describe any special techniques you used during the shooting?
There was a lot of thinking about what kind of images to project on the body, so a long preparation before the shoot, in order to create the right sequences of images, shapes and light, that would work with the concept of the film. Being an experimental film, I could only plan to a certain extent, so there was a lot of testing and experimenting during the actual shoot, and ended up having to adapt the projections on the fly, so I would say there was this component of live performance to it.
