This week, ÉCU is excited to fly to Germany to attend Snowdance Film Festival. Two years ago Europe saw the birth of this new, independent film festival which has his headquarters in Landsberg am Lech in Bavaria, Germany. Its aim, from the beginning, is to support brave, independent films that received little or no state funds, welcoming submissions from all over the world. Snowdance and ÉCU share the same vision of what an independent manifestation should be: a place where cinema lovers and filmmakers can meet and discuss, with no red carpets or special events reserved to VIP.

In just two years Snowdance has managed to become a hotspot for bold filmmaking that manages not to be influenced by major studios or mainstreaming trends. Its director is the famous German actor Heiner Lauterbach, who is assisted by creative director Thomas Bohn and has the support of many creatives coming from the German cinema environment. Independent feature productions (longer than 70 minutes) and independent documentary productions (longer than 40 minutes) are the main categories of the competition, but the festival is also open for short films (no longer than 15 minutes) and music clips (no longer than 7 minutes).

The event is also blessed with beautiful locations in Landsberg, including Stadttheater, the historical city theatre where the opening night, the award ceremony and the projection of feature-length movies will take place. Another wonderful historical building will be used as a headquarter for the reception and the many panel discussions.

ÉCU’s founder and president Scott Hillier will be a guest at the festival and, on the morning of Saturday 30 January, he will take participate to a panel discussion on the topic of “Independent international”. The other guests of the held discussion will be Randall Good (Slamdance Film Festival), Shaila Quadra (Sydney Indie Film Festival) and Tom Bohn from Snowdande. Each one will talk about the current situation of the independent film scene.

This year Snowdance will take place from the 29th to the 31st of January 2016. More information here.
