Below you’ll find a list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), but you can always contact us if you haven’t found what you’re looking for.
Why should I submit to ÉCU?
ÉCU strives to foster creativity, innovation, and true independent spirit through its selections. We are a global 12-month event. After the 3-day festival in Paris, we promote our films to a worldwide audience with our ÉCU-on-the-Road tour. See where ÉCU can take your film!
Where and when is the festival?
The next edition of the festival will take place on the 9th-11th of April 2021 in Paris, France.
How do I submit my film?
Note: If you submit using one of the submission platforms, we ask that you provide another screener version of the film (ie. Vimeo) to expedite the judging process. Links and files will be kept confidential and will be used solely for judging purposes.
2. A copy of your film (digital copy via WeTransfer or Vimeo)
3. Press kit materials including: a concise 3-sentence synopsis, a list of main cast and crew, two digital still photographs of the film, and an official trailer if available.
Where do I send my links and press kit materials?
You can send all links and files to submissions(@)ecufilmfestival.com. Please clearly label all materials with the name of your film.
You can send hard copy materials to:
ÉCU Film Festival Submissions
141 avenue Felix Faure
75015 Paris France
How much does it cost to submit?
Check out the submission price list here.
Do you offer fee waivers for struggling filmmakers?
Rarely. We know how difficult it is to finance independent films, but in order to hold the festival and celebrate your films every year, we rely on submission fees and ticket sales during the festival.
My film is not finished yet! Can I still submit?
Of course! You can submit your film as a work-in-progress version as long as the final copy is available by our latest deadline, 24th January, 2021.
My film is in English. Do I need subtitles?
Not in the submission process. BUT if your film is chosen for the Official Selection, we require French subtitles. As we are based in Paris, this makes your film accessible to our French audiences and distributors.
My film is not in English. Do I need subtitles?
YES. For all non-English dialogue, we require English subtitles.
When will I know if my film/script is accepted?
We will announce the film Official Selection on 17th February, 2021.
We will announce Script competition finalists on 17th March, 2021.
How will you notify me?
For all correspondence, we will use the e-mail address provided with your submission. Please inform submissions(@)ecufilmfestival.com of any changes to your email address or contact information through the submissions process!
I was selected! Will you subsidize my trip to Paris so I can attend the screening?
Unfortunately, we can’t help with the costs of travel. Each year, we do our best to arrange discounted accommodation with nearby hotels and each film selected will be given 2 VIP passes to the festival so you can attend all screenings, workshops, and after-parties for no cost during your time here! You will also have the invaluable opportunity for networking and promoting your film.
What are the awards I will be competing for?
Each category has an individual award and all films compete for awards in editing, directing, acting, cinematography, and audience favourite. Check out last year’s list of winners here.
What format do you screen at the festival?
We screen using DCP versions of films, with HighRes H264 1920×1080 as the back-up copy. The minimal quality we accept for screening is a 1920×1080 QuickTime file.
